Lee County Supervisors Meet with Mississippi Legislators

Members of the Mississippi House of Representatives and the Mississippi Senate spent much of the day Wednesday meeting with Lee County Supervisors to discuss topics important to Lee County. Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann and Speaker of the House Jason White were among those participating in the talks. 

Supervisors President Barry Parker and Supervisors Mike Smith, Wesley Webb and Tommie Lee Ivy had eight specific subjects of concern. “We were very pleased with the meetings, the amount of time we were given to discuss our county’s needs, for sharing ideas and for their sincere interest in our topics,” Parker noted. 

SUBJECTS DISCUSSED 

Juvenile Detention Education Center

– Mooreville-Eggville Fire Department Building 

– Purchase of seven fire trucks for volunteer fire departments

– Old Lee County Courthouse Renovation Project

– Replacement of Bridges on Lee County Road 231

– Additional store shelters for placement at community centers

– Local and private bill concerning Radar Speed Detection

– Local and Private Bill for restoration of the ¼ cent sales tax for the Northeast Mississippi Regional Water Supply District 

The supervisors had previously unanimously passed resolutions requesting financial assistance in each of those areas. Accompanying the supervisors were County Administrator Ronnie Bell, Lee County Emergency Services Director Marc Flanagan, Chancery Clerk Bill Benson, and Board Attorney Gary Carnathan.
