The State of Mississippi has designated October 7-12, 2024, as Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Although Spring is the most active time for tornadoes in the Mississippi, the months of November through December are considered the secondary severe weather season. A different topic will be covered each day to promote severe weather preparedness. This is a great opportunity to learn how to better prepare for when severe weather strikes.
As usual, a statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Wednesday, October 9th at 9:15 a.m. (if there is no actual threat of severe weather at the time). Lee Communications (E911) will test the weather sirens in coordination with the drill. Additional information on the daily topics listed below can be found on the MS Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) webpage at msema.org as well as their Facebook page.
